Philosophy
We practice T’ai Chi Ch’uan in order to cultivate the best of ourselves. Our method arises from three interests:
- Mental and Physical Well Being
The t’ai chi form provides a moving meditation in which we quiet and focus our minds, align and open our bodies, and learn to move with grace and power. Our approach to the form is inspired by classical t’ai chi principles and informed by modern biomechanics. - Playful Martial Arts Exploration
Periodically, we delve into the applications of the movements in our form in order to understand their usefulness. Combined with the right amount of introspection, this exploration enables us to grow beyond our combative minds. We enjoy martial arts play, but our interest is not in fighting, but rather in being. - Spiritual Attunement
T’ai chi enables us to tune ourselves to the greater whole of which we are parts. In our practice, we explore processes through which we can transcend the limitations of our personal histories, so as to experience greater harmony in our lives. In so doing, we can benefit from t’ai chi principles in all our interactions and relationships.- Diagram courtesy of The Harvard School Medical Guide to Tai Chi
